Why We Started Wearing Our Bellies Out
Summertime is approaching, so that means it’s time to start pulling out your sundresses, shorts, and, yes, crop tops! As the weather starts warming up, we’re starting to wear the clothes that keep us cool and maybe show off a little skin. Yet, as women, sometimes we find these beautiful pieces that we fall in love with and end up shying away from for fear of body shaming! NO MA’AM! We are here to remind you to put on whatever makes you feel great! So say yes, to that fitted dress! Say yes, to the short shorts you’ve been eyeing. And yes, especially say yes to that crop top! It’s okay to show skin, whether it’s to keep yourself cool or celebrate your own body! So let’s talk about why we started wearing our bellies out.
1. It’s not that we don’t want to be sexy.
It’s that we KNOW we are. Women have decided to love their bodies in all their shapes, forms, and transitions. We determine our own sexiness. We get to choose what we love, so why not start right at home with our own bodies? We know we can choose to be anything, especially sexy. We are deciding to do it on our own terms, and whether that turns a few heads or gets us some funny looks, we know this is something we got to choose for ourselves. Freedom is sexy.
2. It’s not that we don’t respect ourselves.
We do. We started wearing our bellies out because we’ve decided to share our celebration of ourselves. Every day women are bombarded with images and messages of how they “need” or “should” look. When we started showing our skin, even when it’s “imperfect,” it was because we love what we own, and we decided it deserved celebration.
3. It’s not that we have to wait.
We can do it right now! We don't have to wait to dress up. “I’ll wear crop tops when I lose weight.” “Those shorts are cute, but they’re probably meant for…” The only person we need to seek permission from to put on beautiful items and feel beautiful in them is ourselves. So we started wearing our bellies out and showing our skin in all shapes and manners because everybody and every body deserves to be celebrated! We don’t have to wait for permission if we’ve already checked in with ourselves. You get to determine what is beautiful, and you get to feel that beauty whenever you want! So, choose now!
