6 Ways to Encourage Radical Self-Acceptance

Will Smith recently started a self-acceptance trend when he shared this post on Instagram and made a strong declaration that he was going to change. Wouldn’t it be great if we all had this same level of self-acceptance?

Self-acceptance can be described as "the awareness of one's strengths and weaknesses, the realistic (yet subjective) appraisal of one's talents, capabilities, and general worth, and feelings of satisfaction with one's self despite deficiencies and regardless of past behaviors and choices."

Radical self-acceptance gives way for transformative life experiences. When you genuinely love and accept yourself as you are, the gateways to a life full of joy swing open for you! Here are six ways you can start encouraging radical self-acceptance.

Set an Intention

Have you ever heard of the saying, "Where intention goes, energy flows?" Intention setting is one of the most potent tools each of us has at our disposal. Setting time aside periodically to make a list of intentions for yourself is a powerful way to connect with yourself and encourage your personal creativity. Besides, when you're a woman on a mission, you are unstoppable.

Accept Imperfection

There is beauty and goodness in imperfection. This is why imperfection is perfection. Human beings are inherently flawed, but that doesn't make us any less lovable or deserving. In fact, accepting our imperfections is our best gateway to radical self-acceptance. Every expert started as a beginner. Each success has several failures behind it. It's not about being perfect but perfectly accepting who we are at any given moment. Unapologetically love every part of yourself, but especially your "flaws."

Believe in Yourself

Believe in yourself. Believe in yourself. Believe in yourself! Have you ever pushed a loved one or opportunity away because you don't believe in yourself? Did you shy away from an opportunity for fear of not being "good enough"? It's time to change your internal critic and turn her into your biggest cheerleader. Have faith in your own abilities. Take bold risks and, even if you fail, fail forward. You get to spend 100% of your life with yourself, so why not foster an unshakable belief in yourself and use it to change yourself, even the world, for the better?

Celebrate your unique strengths

Each and every one of us was born with a unique gift and strength. Your life and purpose are yours to discover and use. Sometimes it's easy to fall victim to the idea that you have to be perfect. But never forget that our perceived weaknesses and flaws can actually lead us to our strengths. God thought so highly of you that you were given a life to make the best of. Try leaning on the greatest gift that was ever given to you: your life. Live your very best life and look forward to discovering, cultivating, and appreciating all the unique strengths you have within you this lifetime.

Find New Ways to Connect with Yourself

How do you connect with yourself? Maybe you like to dress up in outfits that make you feel unstoppable. Sometimes you may find yourself connecting more deeply with yourself through service to others. Whatever it is, everything good in your life will always start with you. So practice radical self-acceptance by maintaining commitments you make to yourself. Enjoy the things you love and be so in touch with yourself that you can't help but easily connect with other people. Shine so brightly in self-love and acceptance that people are in awe of the relationship you have with yourself.

Self-Encourage with Affirmations

What do you say to encourage yourself? Practicing affirmations and self-encouragement is a way to ensure you've filled your own cup. Some examples of affirmations you could use are:

"I have strength in my heart and clarity in my mind."

"I am full of love and deserving of joy and abundance."

"My life is full of purpose, and I am capable of making all my dreams come true."

"I love myself fully and without judgment."

Practicing affirmations is a powerful way to strengthen your relationship with yourself. Self-encouragement helps us make the most out of our lives by helping us build our strongest sense of self-worth.  Again, be your biggest cheerleader. Do things that make you happy when you feel down and make the most of your life by ensuring the most important person in your life is well-cared for...you.
